How can I reduce tile grout height?

by on Aug.26, 2008, under Bath

Bobbin asked:

I’ve had some Travertine mosaic tiles fitted in my kitchen and there’s a patch where the fitter hasn’t removed enough grout so its flush with the tile itself. What would be the best way/tool to reduce this by a couple of mm, if it is, at all possible . Grout used was a Mapei in the colour range.

Grout is supposed to be flush w/ the tile/ travertine or mosaic un less its a cushioned edged tile and I can t tell that from here lol Do the others have recessed grout? is it a tumbled travertine mosaic? e mail me if you have some more info and I d be glad to help . GL
Edit.. I miss read your comment, I thought you ment it was flush . It s high and you need to have it flush. If the installer won t fix it ( which he/she should) then sometimes a ***** driver or a utility knike will work. Some time s you have to get in there and grind it down. You may have to dig it down pass the tile and regrout to get it to look good, again GL

Any tool like an old screwdriver that is the right width of your grout space can be honed to a chisel edge and carefully used to pare down the high spots. Travertine is extremely soft, so be careful not to gouge it as you work.
