bathroom renovation: how to remove painted-over wall paper glue without damaging the drywall?
by Jeff on Aug.09, 2008, under Bath
Hi, We just bought a condo, and have very, very little money to renovate the bathroom.
All four walls look like they at one time had thick wall paper on them, which was later torn off. Then, someone painted right over the wallpaper glue. The texture is horrible and flaking off all over the place.
My worry is that if I sand it, won’t I damage the drywall beneath the glue? What is the technique to adequately remove the painted over glue so that I can paint it fresh?
Thank you for your help!

A contractor completed the renovation on my bathroom and was paid in full on completion of the work?
by Jeff on Jul.31, 2008, under Bath
A few weeks later I received a call from a cabinet maker, who built the custom cabinets saying he has not been paid for the cabinets that the contractor ordered. They want to come after me for payment even though I had no contract or contact with them only with the contractor. Can they place a lein on my property? Don’t they have to go after the contractor who ordered the cabinets?

Bathroom renovation qu. Can the toilet be moved w/o interfering w/ plumbing?
by Jeff on Jul.29, 2008, under Bath
I saw pics of this house I am thinking of buying and there is an old toilet and old sink vanity (which is very small). I want to move the toilet 2ft to the left which will make more room for a larger, newer sink vanity. My qu is can you move a toilet that far from its current position or will plumbing interfer? Thanks.

by Jeff on Jul.16, 2008, under Bath
Some red cough syrup spilled on my tile kitchen floor. I’ve managed to get the tiles clean, but how do I get it off the grout? The syrup was Triaminic Cough and Cold formula.

Specifically white tile with white grout. I can never find a “grout cleaning product” that actually does what it says.

Bathroom renovation – how to schedule?
by Jeff on Jul.01, 2008, under Bath
I am (with much trepidation) co-ordinating my own bathroom renovation. I will be using skilled tradesmen but I just need some tips on how to get everything scheduled so it goes smoothly.
I need a list of items I will need to consider, preparing the budget, tasks to tick off, when to start which item.
I have the style and materials picked out, just need to get the project management under control.
We are pretty set on what we want done, and it should be pretty straight-forward. We need to demolish and re-install:
a) shower – current one was leaking and is no longer in use. It will be replaced with a new shower unit (floor, walls, glass)
b) bath – being removed and a new one put in its place
c) vanity and cupboards – being ripped out and moved to another area.
d) The toilet is a separate room and all that needs doing there is re-tiling
e) Shower and bath fixtures will remain almost in the same place. Only plumbing that needs to be moved is the pipes for the vanity basin.

by Jeff on May.22, 2008, under Bath
My bathtub, toilet, and sink are this horrible mustard brown color and I finally have the time to paint them white. Problem is, I’m not sure what type of paint or spray paint to use or where to get it? Can anyone help me out on this one?
