Home Heating Oil The Benefits

by on Feb.27, 2010, under Uncategorized

The two most popular fuels used to heat the home are oil and gas. Millions of homes worldwide use heating oil to warm their homes. Heating oil comes from crude oil normally but some heating oil these days actually comes from biofuels. Petroleum heating oil comes in three main types which are diesel, kerosene and a blend of distillate fuel and residual fuel. Although kerosene has the least impurities, this fact makes it the most expensive. Diesel has more impurities than kerosene but is more affordable and is the choice for most homes.

The price of heating oil is constantly changing and this is usually in line with the way global crude oil prices are changing. However the price of heating oil can be affected by other factors too. For example, if the weather suddenly turns very cold, there is normally a sudden high demand for oil which can send the prices higher. But those who are clever will normally make sure that they take advantage of lower prices during the summer months and fill their tanks up then ready for the winter. That way there is no need to pay the high prices when the cold weather kicks in. But those who wanted to really take advantage of the lower prices could think about installing another tank so that they could have two tank fulls of cheaper priced oil before the higher prices appear.

One other type of fuel used to heat homes is natural gas. The fact that natural gas is pumped directly into the home gives it a distinct advantage over oil. You do not have to contact your heating company to get it delivered as you do with oil. However, because gas prices are on the rise, there are still plenty of people who prefer to stick to heating their homes with oil. Natural gas is also not available everywhere and many homes in rural areas need oil to heat their homes.

Getting the home heated up during winter can be very expensive. Gas and electricity are very expensive today, with no signs of prices coming down. Many individuals are now changing over to cheaper home heating oil though. And when this happens they have to ensure the tanks re always full of heating oil to make sure they don’t run dry in the cold weather.
