Advantages of Solar Energy: An In Depth Look At Why You Should Opt For This Type of Renewable Energy

by GrantS on Jun.08, 2009, under Uncategorized

The advantages of solar energy are many and that is the reason why so many American families are opting for home based solar systems in large numbers.

If you drive down a residential area, you will often find rows of homes with solar panels gracing the terraces and rooftops – living testimony of the ever increasing popularity of solar energy.

Today, I’ll be sharing my research and experience with solar and why I’VE chosen to use it for my home’s “green” energy.

Benefits and advantages of solar energy

Well, as we all know… We NEED the Sun to survive. Scientists tell us there’s no risk of losing the sun for at least a few million years, so I think we’ll be alright using solar energy for a while.

There is no fear of causing any kind of environmental damage or environmental pollution with solar power generation. This kind of energy production does not destroy the ozone layer. Solar energy or electricity is an alternative and green fuel source that is regarded as environment friendly, clean and safe. By switching over to a green fuel like this, you can help to save your planet and further the cause of the wellbeing of the earth.

Another of the advantages of solar energy is its versatility. Solar batteries, solar cars, buses, solar trams, satellites and many other such diverse items can be powered through solar energy. Because of it’s compatibility, you’re able to easily link it with other energy sources. For example, with a wind generator and a few panels you can EASILY live completely off the grid.

A few other advantages of solar energy

Whether you install the panels on your roof, behind your home, or somewhere even more discreet, you immediately benefit from very long operational life spans. Most solar providers guarantee their panels will last all the wear and tear the environment can throw at ‘em for at LEAST twenty years. The electricity that solar home system will generate will be done silently and as a result you need not fear noise pollution. During the long summer months, when you can enjoy abundant sunlight, the utility bills can get slashed by up to 90%.

It can take a year or more to cross your “pay-off point” (the cost of the panels) but after that moment, you’ll know that you’re literally MAKING money every month instead of throwing it away. If you want, you can even produce excess energy and store that energy in solar cells which you can market commercially or sell back to the power corporation and earn profit. There are now even DIY guides that show you how to build a solar panel for home use.

You may not think of it at first, but your photovoltaic cells (solar panels) will actually keep your house safer by adding one more protective layer to your roof; reducing your heating and cooling costs, and extending the life of your home. There are many other advantages to using solar power, but that’s all I can think of for now… Get your solar panels for your home installed quickly to start saving (and making) money today.

Solar power?

by Jeff on Jan.04, 2009, under Solar Power

melaniecampbell asked:

We are looking at buying a house and renovating it, and were wondering about using solar or wind power to power much of our house. We will have a well, be on a septic system, have a wood burning furnace for heating the house, so we would like to have solar or wind power so we can use as little electricity as possible (its insanely expensive here!). We also have our appliances (fridge, stove, washer, dryer, freezer).
How much would a basic set up be for a 900 sq ft, 3 bedroom house? For either wind turbines or solar panels and necessary equipment? I am in Southern Ontario.

Thanks!
