My Personal Kitchen Curtain Passion

by on Jun.15, 2010, under Kitchen

Almost certainly my favorite space to spend time in is the kitchen. It has been that way in every house that I have lived in recently, but the one I currently have is a little to small to spend a great amount of time in. The windows in each kitchen have always been small, and therefore, the kitchen window treatments that I choose had to be small as well. As a result, and maybe it is just me, I can never find a set of draperies that I truly love.

I have spent more time than needed looking for kitchen drapes. I find this to be utterly ridiculous but it is very true. I have gone everywhere and looked in all locations that I can think of and there is no window treatments around that I like for my kitchen. I understand that the process of selecting colors and patterns to match what I have does not need to be difficult, but there is absolutely nothing that is going well. The fact of the matter is though that I am going to have to look at these window treatments every single day so I want them to be just right. Sometimes I have a tough time finding the perfect window treatments for all of the other windows in my home, but those kitchen curtains are the ones that really drive me crazy.

I do have some shades on my dining room windows, but looking at them is not something that pleases me. They are one solid color, and I was hoping to find something with a pattern. It is a rather silly thing to whine about I know, but searching at them just brings me down and makes me feel glum.

I know for a fact that I am not the only person who has to deal with this problem. The other person who suffers from the same fate that I am in and in all probability gave it to me via her genes is my mother. She can never find a kitchen curtain that she likes either and is perpetually changing them. I can understand my mother though as she has literally spent over half of her life in a kitchen.

I am not really that good with fabric, string, and needle, but when I look at the selection of curtains I really consider making my own. I am going to say those famous last words, “It can’t be that hard right?”. You really wouldn’t think that it would be. There is plenty of fabric out there that I know I like as I have seen it and told myself that it would make a fabulous kitchen curtain. If I don’t find something soon, I’m going to have to give in and sew. The skill for sewing sheers is something that I am not afraid of following, it is simply the fact that there is no sewing machine in my possession. My only option for sewing drapes is to break out an actual needle and thread and sew them by hand. The curtains that I put together by hand would almost certainly pass for a pillow case before a curtain, but at least I won’t have a reason to whine about the pattern.
